Trying to Earn Global Online from the Philippines: Reviewing A Site Like "The Thinking Blog" Can Bring Traffic to Your Blog

Look around for offers like the one at The Thinking Blog's Review Contest.

In exchange for doing a review of his site and posting it at your blog, he gives out two links to your blog plus the chance to win a free redesign (for the best review) or a free favicon for the honorable mentions.

The blog author, Ilker Yoldas, is a whiz at graphic design and there are a lot of samples of his excellent work at the site.

Even if you don't win the blog redesign (where he gives your blog a visual makeover with a new template) nor the icon, just getting the two links prominently placed in his post is already worth it. After all, The Thinking Blog claims to have the 5th largest community at MyBlogLog. Think of the traffic this could bring to your blog.

It will also give you a new topic to write a post on. This is handy because there are days when we, bloggers, just get stumped at what to write about.

Well, here goes my review then.

If The Thinking Blog's primary purpose is to showcase the author's graphic designing talent and skills, then it definitely is succeeding.

The sample site makeovers shown - with before and after screenshots - are enough to convince anyone of this. Ilker even redesigned John Chow's blog and I like his version much better. Too bad John Chow hasn't taken up his offer to use his redesign for free.

Aside from promoting the author's graphic designing services, though, the blog also offers many interesting posts.

The video on the polar bear cub is just adorable. My kids demanded that we watch it over and over.

Far from cuteness but very insightful is the post on the evangelist marketing technique using apple's ipod campaign as an example. This is a post that resonates well with the blog's title.

I like the mix of informative and entertaining posts on the site. It makes very interesting reading.

I was initially concerned with the "ToplessWomen" link at the upper part of the sidebar but I clicked on it to investigate first before commenting and I'm glad I did. It actually leads to a very interesting discussion which includes the issue of breastfeeding in public. (My comments would be off-subject to this review so I'm just going to comment at the site.)

All in all, I would be visiting The Thinking Blog regularly with or without the contest. It was a great idea, though, and I'd like to thank him for it.

Trying to Earn Global Online from the Philippines: Trying to Get More Traffic to My Blog, I Made a Big Booboo at MyBlogLog

I am so embarrassed!

I discovered MyBlogLog a few days ago when I saw those nice windows in other blogs with pics or avatars of Recent Readers. I clicked on the link and joined immediately to get the same widget on my blogs.

I got even more excited to discover that MBL enables you to build a community for your blog. Members just click to join.

I am also able to join as many communities as I want. The only limit is joining 15 per day. No problem, I thought. So I started clicking on pics and avatars and joining communities of blogs I found interesting.

And then I got this notice on my page saying these people had added me as a contact and that I could reciprocate or just ignore it. They were strangers but, hey, they found me interesting enough to add me as a contact so I thought it just polite to reciprocate. And since I was flattered by what they did, I thought it was fine and normal at MBL to add other strangers as my contact, too. So I started to do that.

Then I got messages from still other strangers inviting me to check out their site and join their communities. No problem, I thought. I checked out the sites and joined the communities of those I thought interesting. Then, because I thought again that it was the normal thing to do at MBL, I also began posting the same invitation to the communities I was joining. When I reached my 15 communities limit, I even posted the same invitation to communities I intended to join the following day.

What a neat way to do networking, I thought. So I planned to write about MBL on today's post. I planned to write about exactly what I did.

Good thing I checked out the MBL blog first.

What do you know! I found that a big controversy had just happened that I was unaware of. Reading through the whole thing I found to my horror that many experienced bloggers hated just what I had been doing. That it was even considered spamming! Oh. My. God. What have I done?

Apparently, it isn't kosher to make total strangers your contact and you're not supposed to leave messages inviting people to visit your blog or join your communities. I wouldn't have done this elsewhere except I thought it was the normal thing to do at MBL.

Perhaps MBL should give clear guidelines to new members upon joining. Something clear and easy for newbies like me. The Terms of Service link just won't do.I did scan through that but I thought it just dealt with legalities and such.

Now those people who have read my invitations at MBL could be thinking of me as a cheap spammer. I hope they do visit just to see that it ain't so. This blog may not be much but it's an honest effort of a newbie to learn the ropes and help other newbies along the way. It's not a get rich quick gimmick relying on dirty tricks.

I hope my blog doesn't get burned by this. I'm barely taking off here.

I guess it's true here as elsewhere. You'll learn by doing. And it isn't always pretty. You'll stumble sometimes. I just have to get up, brush off the dirt and get on with it, a day wiser.

Trying to Earn Global Online from the Philippines: I Earned 5$ Just By Joining "Paid Forum"

You can, too, with a free sign-up.

And if you do, you stand to earn even more. Each referral you send to them resulting in a free membership sign-up gives you a dollar.

Furthermore, each thread you start on the forum earns you 5 cents while each reply brings you a cent.

This may not seem like much but remember that if you have a blog or site, participation in forums is a must to drive traffic to your site. So in effect, Paid Forum is paying you to promote and drive traffic to your own site, resulting in a higher probability of clicks to your ads and more income for you. If you look at it that way, isn't it just perfect?

Even if you don't have a blog or site to monetize, you can still make money from Paid Forum. The sign-up bonus, for one, is easy money from the start. Then you can talk about anything you want in the forum (within bounds of decency and legality, of course) and get paid for it.

Furthermore, you can continue to invite people to join. You don't need to make them buy anything. It's free. In fact, you are giving them the chance to earn $5 automatically, and yourself to earn $1. It's a win-win situation.

So how do you refer people to Paid Forum if you don't have a blog or a website?

I suppose you use email? Most email applications allow you to add a signature to your every message. Write in an invitation to Paid Forum like the one I have at the bottom of this post. Make sure to include your special referrer link so that people can click on that to join. This will ensure that the sign-up is credited to your account. You'll get your referrer link when you sign up at Paid Forum.

This is also one of the few paying opportunities in the net that does not exclusively use PayPal. For those of us in the Philippines, and in other countries not allowed to receive money from PayPal, this is a relief.

I chose to receive payment through Western Union. You could also opt for a check mailed to you.

Okay, then, off I go to Paid Forum.

Trying to Earn Global Online from the Philippines: Test Before You Invest in Your Online Business

No one wants to be scammed.

We are usually wary of income opportunities that require an investment. This is why Blogger is a popular site. It allows us to set up our blogs for free and earn from them.

There is also added value in having your own domain, though. For one, it gives you a sense of pride to say you own a piece of virtual real estate. I'm proud to say I own www.earnglobal.ws.

It's not just an empty boast, though. My site came with a website plus free website building support that a tech-impaired newbie like me needed very badly. Furthermore, I got it with a package that included a free complete ready-to-go web business.

That means I have my own address (which I got to name myself) and a website that I could do with as I please, along with my own brand new web biz that I could immediately earn from. It comes with complete backroom support, too, teaching me everything I need to know every step of the way. This being my first web biz venture, I also needed that support.

And how much did I need to shell out for this start up? Nothing.

Yes, you read that right. I was given the opportunity to choose my own domain name, claim it, get a website and build it the way I like, and start doing business immediately - all for free. Of course, it's only a 7-day free trial period but, hey, how many businesses can you test run for free before you decide to invest in it?

There are no strings attached, either. At the end of the week-long trial period, I could have cancelled if I thought it wasn't for me.

I decided to keep my domain and website, though. I figured I would just be paying a very affordable rate for the service, comparable to prevailing market rates. But I got a bonus with it - the free business that I had already tested and that could very well pay for the domain and webhosting while earning me much, much more in the long run.

Why waste the opportunity, then? I would normally have to pay for my own domain name and website, anyway, and then pay extra for whatever web business I choose to set up on it. Here, I get the business package for free.

So if you're planning to set up your own web business, I highly suggest you test it first, too.

If you want to go my route, you can start here.

You can then monetize that site or your existing blog with Google Adsense and Text Link Ads.

In addition to all of these, sign up with Agloco for free and earn by just doing your normal internet routine. Agloco stands for A Global Community and it believes that all internet users deserve a share of the massive profits circulating online. I totally agree.

Trying to Earn Global Online from the Philippines: Optimize Your Blog by Streamlining to Your Niche

Clean up your topic clutter.

If you want to use Adsense as a major income stream, remember that it serves contextual ads. It gives your blog ads that match the keywords you are writing about.

If you write on too many topics, Adsense may serve you ads that you did not intend to offer to your readers. If your ads are not of interest to your visitors, they wouldn't be interested to click on them. You lose revenue.

This blog, for example, was primarily intended to share lessons I am learning as I try to make money online. Since I also write Filipino romance novels as Maia Jose, I thought I could incorporate that into this blog, as well.

I realized, however, that there are already so many things I want to write about on problogging, earning money online and working freelance. And there are also so many things I want to write about under my Maia Jose persona - writing romance novels, reading romance novels, being a romantic, being in love, relationships and such.

I further realized that although I may have visitors interested in both aspects of my work, there are many more who may only be interested in one or the other. If I put everything in one blog, I may be losing focus. I may also be sending mixed signals to Adsense, prompting them to send me ads that are not as targetted to my niche as I want them to be.

I decided, therefore, to create another blog: Maia Jose Romance. This way, I can streamline each blog to its target audience while still proving a link between the two.

The Maia Jose Romance blog is still under construction. I hope to get it up and running within a day or two.

Having several blogs covering your various interests is a good way to reach out to as many visitors as possible without "muddying up" one catch-all blog.

I am just about to test what I have written about so we'll see how this goes in the next few months, shall we?

I'm Starting to Earn Online!

Today is my husband's birthday and this is part of my birthday package for him.

Yes! I started to see some earnings from my online activities yesterday, on my third blog post. Of course, I'm still talking cents here but, hey, it proves that problogging does work.

Now even my three kids want to learn from what I'm learning so they can set up their own blogs that they can monetize, too. Might as well earn from all that time they spend online, right? And they do have a headstart on networking with friendster and such.

I've been very productive work-wise yesterday, too.

I joined MyBlogLog and put it up on this blog. Yey! It not only looks good but it's also a terrific networking tool. I already "met" a number of people and joined a number of communities. I also began to build a community for this blog.

Do join MyBlogLog and join my blog's community. It's free and you won't be sorry for the exposure it will give your site. Just click on the link below this post.

Now I'm joining my family to celebrate :-)

Trying to Earn Global Online from the Philippines: Feels Weird to Want Traffic

If you know Manila, you know what I mean.

To really monetize your site, though, traffic is what you want to generate for it. Lots and lots of traffic! Think EDSA at rush hour! Instead of cars, however, visualize visitors reading through your site and clicking on your relevant ads.

Now how do you attract this kind of traffic to your site?

First, of course, you have to have the right content. You have to be able to offer something they have been looking for. What exactly this is will depend on your niche and the target audience you have decided to serve. Make sure your content matches your market.

Next, get the word out. Promote your site. Let people know about it. There are many ways to do this.

One is to interact with fellow bloggers who write on similar topics. Read their posts and leave well-thought-out comments. Don't forget to leave your url with your signature. The blogger and his or her readers will, hopefully, pay you a visit. If they like what they see, you could expect them to come back again and again. Do this with a lot of other bloggers and you'll be linking up your blog with a community.

A complementary strategy is to join blog networks. They will usually ask you to post on the network site with some regularity. This is a good opportunity to show people what you have to offer. Your posts, of course, link back to your site.

You should also join forums relevant to your topic. Make sure you give a good impression by being sincerely interested and involved in the discussions. This will attract people to take a look at your site.

Do not, however, join forums just to advertise for free. You'll most probably be banned for spamming and you'll be building a bad reputation for yourself and your site. That is NOT what you want.

Another very important thing to remember: If your site uses Google Adsense as a source of income, stay away from quick fixes such as automated traffic generators and traffic exchanges. This will get you banned from Adsense and you will lose a major income stream.

Okay, now I have to go follow my own advice and generate some more traffic into this site.

Learning How To Earn Online

It's Real Work!

Don't be fooled by those blurbs saying it doesn't need much effort. I thought I just had to set this blog up and start writing and that's it. The moment I got serious about monetizing the blog and started reading up a lot, though, I was flooded with much more information than I could digest and implement in one day. Whew!

I wasn't able to post yesterday precisely because I was reading and learning and tweaking things around the blog. At least I got into Technorati and was able to plug into Adsense. That got me into tweaking my keywords some more and then fiddling around with placements.

Don't get me wrong. It's not that I'm not loving every minute of it. In fact, I could hardly get myself away from the laptop. This can get really involving.

Plus, of course, as I do my research reading other blogs I just can't help enjoying the stuff so much that I wander away from my initial research goals. I can just go on reading and surfing all day. It takes even more effort to reel myself in.

Okay, I have to leave now to do some more work "backstage." I do promise to share the experience as I go along.

Earn Online While Working From Home

That's My Target

I created this blog last year. Before I could fully launch it, though, my dad's health deteriorated and he passed away in May. My Mom has since been very sick, too. It really was a very difficult year for the whole family.

Still, we had to go on. It was a great challenge to keep on writing but one has to earn a living. The fact that both my husband and I work from home was a tremendous help. We managed to care for my Dad and are still caring for my Mom while working on our freelance writing and editing projects. My husband also has a business to attend to.

I am committing myself anew to this blog in the hope that it could eventually turn into another income stream. I've been reading up on how a large number of blogs, including those of fellow Pinoys, have successfully profitted from monetizing what is also a very fulfilling medium for self-expression and social networking.

So far my experience has proven that one can indeed live on one's passion - mine is writing. I hope this venture will prove that right again, especially now that our eldest daughter is in college, our son is graduating from high school and our youngest daughter is about to enter her last year in elementary school. Income streams will be very welcome, indeed.

I feel I have found a comfortable niche writing about family life in Metro Manila while working from home on my freelance writing projects and exploring various ways to make money online.

I'm excited and enthusiastic again. Let's get this on!
